Whenever I visit and/or am confronted with new designs (of any kind), I automatically (like probably many people) start to cross reference the new image I am confronted with and try to associate it with the ‘image bank’ in my mind…. Subconsciously most of us cross reference the new image we are confronted with at that moment, with the ‘things’ we already know… I wanted to set-up a (new) game on this blog, hereby the simple rule:
Please respond to this blog posting by filling in the numbers of the pictures with a brand/model of which the watch on the picture reminds you! I will not mention the name/model of the watch on the picture. Of course there will be some pictures of watches that are ‘original’ 😉
Let the games begin:
1. The watch on the top?
2. Does this remind you of any other watch?
3. Is this original or inspired by ………. ?
4. New watch, but is it a new design?
5. Let’s not forget the ladies watches…
6. This reminds the 1960s, does it?!
7. Military Watch or Urban Style?!
8. Not many brands make rectangular watches… Right?!
9. Is this original, Inspired by or plain copy?
10. The name shouts out DESIGN, but is this watch design original?
11. Pimp your watch (Click & Combine):
12. New design… Is it original?
13. Octant-like case…
14. Are these diamonds or Swarovski?
15. Haute Horlogerie or Fashion Watch?
16. Tourbillon, Tourbillon Look-a-Like, Tourbillon Inspired, Tourbillon Wannabe or Original?
17. What make is this?
18. Don’t look at the pillow, but the concept of the watch…
19. New player on the market… Are they original? And is this ‘design’?
20. Last, but certainly not least: Original or not?
Please share you opinion by playing this game. Because I do not want to influence opinions, I will go last….

1. Longines Yacht-Master 😉
2. Sorry, it looks schizophrenic
7. Somewhat IWC Pilot – inspired
9. Seamaster?
10. I never knew Georg Jensen was Portuguese?
11. 1980’s Pop Swatch!!
12. Tag Heuer Monaco?
13. Ay-pee wannabe!
16. Looks like someone was dial-hungry… a no-no without a tourbillon!
18. JaegerLC Reverso?
19. Horrific – has nothing to do with watches
20. Does it take nice pictures?

1. Very Yach-Masterish… a wonderful watch btw 🙂
2. U-Boat/TW-Steel or another ”let’s join the hype and see if we can make up a nice history like the one of Panerai”-brand
3. Inspired by the Gerald Genta designs of the 1970s. I like them btw.
4. An updated design of the same watch a few years ago by the same brand. I think this is the successor of that 1945-tribute thingy by Oris.
5. This Gucci looks like the 85-Euro Fossil watch you can buy at the Bijenkorf..
6. Hamilton Electric! The Elvis watch! This watch in quartz have me a suspicious mind, but I think the automatic version is rather cool.
7. Another PVD military style watch.. all based on the early Sinn 140/142 that the German astronaut used to wear in my opinion 😉 I had it with PVD watches btw.
8. Although the watch doesn’t exactly look like it, they remind me of the original Rolex prince watches…
9. Shameless.
10. A combination of the early 1990s Omega DeVille range and an IWC Portugieser. I don’t like the Danish design stuff, except for B&O equipment.
11. No comment.
12. Either a vintage Omega caliber 1040 Seamaster or a Tag Heuer watch.
13. See 3. But less outspoken.
14. They shouldnt abuse the panda bear for an ugly object like this.
15. Hey, a new Zenith from the hand of Nataf.. (where is the puke emoticon?)
16. A Breguet wannabee but has more in common with a Frederique Constant watch. Keep the movement out of sight please, unless it is really worth it.
17. Either a B&M, Cartier or a PP 24. The sharp edges on the bracelet and lugs make me think it is a Cartier.
18. Tag Heuer 69, or is it a tribute to the Omega Equinox? Or is it an answer to the Reverso by JLC?
19. An ugly design by a brand that should stick to fashion (if it is the same company)
20. Storm is at least an original fasion slash design brand for little money. I don’t know ANYONE in my direct environment who would wear this though. I respect that in my friends.

So, uh, big watches are in this year, then?

@David: Lol. Thanks for playing.
@RJ: Thanx for your replies. Enjoyed the feedback.
@jbrandt: Not only this year, it started around 2001 and 7 years later the ‘trend’ (if we can call that) is still growing strong 😉

I had one like number 20, bought ages ago in San Marino for 20000 Italian Liras (about 10 euros), I think I was twelve when wearing it. After a couple of months, one leaf or the “shutter” locked up. I’ve destroyed it in triing to fix the leaf.

1. yachtmaster. Should mention, I had a yachtmaster, sold it, went looking for a new watch, and bought that one (longines hydroconquest 47.5) Saw it on rubber in the store, haven’t ever worn it on the bracelet. It actually doesn’t look good in person on the bracelet…too washed out. Looks great on brown leather though. Guess I have consistent taste!
